Self-Storage Data Services, Inc. (SSDS), founded in 1992, is a market research company specializing in publishing site-specific and market performance reports for the self-storage industry. SSDS maintains the nation’s largest database of operating statistics on self-storage facilities. Data is provided by owners/operators who choose to participate, and collected from other sources such as lenders, brokers, appraisers, investors, and public sources. SSDS regularly conducts surveys in order to track performance trends in the self-storage industry.

SSDS is wholly owned by Charles R. Wilson, MAI, CRE, owner of Charles R. Wilson & Associates, Inc., (CRW). CRW is a real estate appraisal and consulting firm, which has specialized in the valuation of self-storage facilities throughout the United States since 1976. Mr. Wilson has been a full-time appraiser since 1968. In addition to his appraisal experience, Mr. Wilson is a well-recognized and respected industry leader. He regularly writes articles published in various publications, and frequently speaks at conferences and seminars on trends in the self-storage industry.

As a result of over 20 years experience in the appraisal and consulting of self-storage facilities, an extensive database developed. Initially, the data was utilized in its aggregated form as a resource for CRW. Mr. Wilson, however, recognized the lack of reliable unbiased market information within the self-storage industry. Seeing the need for such information to be provided from an independent third party, Mr. Wilson created Self Storage Data Services, Inc.
